Our Approach to Geography

Right from the moment they start school, the children of Bond Primary are exploring the environment within which they live. By Key Stage 1, children have a keen sense of self, who they are and where they live. We then begin with the geography of our local environment, and gradually expand children's geographical awareness until we've introduced them to the world map and the globe.

Key Stage 2 begins with a closer look at the UK, looking at communities and what they are and what it means to be part of one, eventually extending to Europe and then the wider world. We follow key geographical and environmental themes which we compare across a range of localities.

How do we teach Geography?

Our curriculum is primarily driven by both Geography & History in Autumn and Spring.  This intense focus allows us to dive deeply into a theme and gain a better understanding. Geography is not forgotten about for the rest of the year - cross curricular planning maintains the status of Geography throughout the year and keeps the skills we are teaching the children constantly being used. Fieldwork is a high priority and each year group plans for Geography to be delivered outside the classroom every year.
